How we score
Every score on an Ecopreneurist review is calculated from sourced facts that anyone can check. No score is our opinion, and nothing is scored unless a fetched source supports it. Brands cannot pay for a score, and no commercial relationship changes one.
Boiler brands: five checks, each out of 10
| Check | Measured from | Scoring |
|---|---|---|
| Warranty | Longest standard manufacturer warranty on the flagship combi, fitted by an accredited installer (the manufacturer’s own warranty page) | 2 years = 4, 5 years = 6, 7 years = 7, 10 years = 9, 12+ years = 10 |
| Efficiency | ErP class and seasonal efficiency of the range (manufacturer spec sheets) | 94%+ = 10, 93% = 9, 92% = 8, below 92% = 6 (the Boiler Plus minimum is 92%) |
| Price | Typical fitted price of the flagship combi against the UK combi range on our boiler cost page | Bottom third = 9, middle third = 7, top third = 5 (this measures value, not quality) |
| Customer rating | Trustpilot score and review count on the brand’s own profile, fetched on the day | Score × 2, capped at 8 when there are fewer than 1,000 reviews |
| Support | Published support on the brand’s own pages: UK call centre hours, in-house engineers, parts availability statement | One point per verified item, scaled to 10 |
Installers: five checks, each out of 10
Installer reviews use the same banding style across five checks: typical price from the quotes data on our cost pages, guarantee length, FENSA, Certass or TrustMark membership, Trustpilot rating on the company’s own profile fetched on the day, and Companies House status and age.
The rules
The overall score is the mean of the scored checks, to one decimal place. It is shown only when at least 4 of the 5 checks have data; otherwise the page says how many checks are in and shows no number.
Each check stores its source, the date we fetched it and the exact wording it supports. A second, independent check verifies every one before it is published.
Scores are refreshed every 12 months, or sooner when a brand changes its warranty or its range.
Every “good” and “not so good” point restates a sourced fact — for example “10-year warranty when fitted by an accredited installer”, never “great reliability”.
