Switching

Ecotricity treats a business as an SME if it uses less than 200,000 kWh of electricity or gas a year, or has five or fewer meter points. Businesses using more than that are classed as large. SMEs get quotes through the online journey (smallbusinessquotes.ecotricity.co.uk) or on 0345 600 1994. Large businesses get quotes on the same number or at business.sales@ecotricity.co.uk. Lines are open Mon-Thu 08:30-17:00 and Fri 08:30-16:00. Prices are set per quote and set out in the Business Supply Agreement. When a fixed term ends without a new contract, the business moves onto the variable Out of Contract tariff. Ecotricity will object to a transfer that starts inside a fixed term, and may object if the account is in arrears. Otherwise a transfer should take no more than 5 working days. Where Ecotricity can communicate with a smart or AMR meter it collects half-hourly data. Bills are sent at least quarterly. If a complaint is unresolved after 8 weeks, sole traders, micro and small businesses can refer it to Ombudsman Services: Energy. Other business services are on-site wind and solar generation and Real Time REGOs, a time-matched renewable certificate product.
