TetraPak has been a staunch supporter of the Forest Stewardship Council since 2007. FSC certification ensures that products come from well managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. TetraPak not only uses FSC labeled raw materials in the manufacture of its containers, it also strongly encourages its customers to support FSC standards as well.
The Forest Stewardship Council was founded in 1994 by a group of non-governmental organizations, timber users, and traders. The FSC label is widely recognized as the highest global certification standard for forest management. FSC provides a connection between the forest and the end user, ensuring that products with the FSC label uphold principles and criteria which bring the highest social and environmental benefits.
FSC certification can positively impact workers and communities, shift governance processes globally and change economic and environmental conditions in the forest. This impact improves conditions such conflict over land tenure and use, worker’s health and safety, biodiversity conservation, protection of endangered species, and participatory forest policy.
Increasing consumer interest in environmental issues leads companies to communicate their impact on the environment and the actions they are taking in a transparent way. The FSC logo enables consumers to choose brands that are committed to sustainable forestry. For a product to carry the FSC label, there must be an unbroken Chain of Custody certification for all relevant sites. Tetra Pak has completed the certification for all converting plants and market companies and can supply FSC-labelled packages from anywhere in the world.
In 2015, 54 million such containers were delivered. By the end of 2016, TetraPak expects the number of FSC certified containers supplied by it to customers since 2007 to exceed 200,000,000 billion worldwide. Driving environment excellence is one of Tetra Pak’s strategic priorities. As part of this agenda, the long term ambition is to deliver all packages with the FSC label.
